Emily Carew Woodard
Illustrator
Studio: MSS 03
Emily Carew Woodard is one of the most exciting illustrators in Britain today – operating out of her Waterloo studio, she works closely with the Roald Dahl team, is exhibiting alongside Quentin Blake later this year and is regularly commissioned by major global brands, including Godiva Chocolatiers, Annabel’s Club, Hitachi, McCann, Penguin Random House, The National Trust, John Lewis, Alexander McQueen, The Guardian and many more. A darkly romantic style, evocative of the Golden Era of children’s literature is woven into the fabric of her paintings, with clear influences from artists that have inspired her style, such as Edward Gorey, Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham, apparent in each work. She amalgamates this with her own light-touch and irreverent humour to create some truly charming pieces.
“Emily Carew Woodard is a secret gem and a star in the ascent.” VOGUE UK
“Emily Woodard is a major new talent in the field of British illustration.” William Laffan
“I have commissioned several of Emily’s pieces for the Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, for Roald Dahl classical music programmes for myself and for presents for friends. I find her work delightful and I think it would be ideal for children’s books.” Felicity Dahl
